This has nothing to do with flatpak, but since AppImage was mentioned ...

I use one program (that is also available as a .deb package) that is an AppImage. In case you don't know, an AppImage can be installed, but can also be simply executed without installation (and this is how I use it). Running it without installation does not  "integrate" it into the DE, but that is completely irrelevant for me. I run it without installation because I do not want to add any new libraries to my system just to use this program. I got it from the group producing the source code, it runs well (starts more slowly than the .deb version, but not a problem for me) and when a new version is available, all I need to do is delete the one AppImage file and download the one new AppImage file.

I doubt that I will do this for other programs, but I thought I would try it with this one and am quite satisfied with the result.
