Log Off Button Off [Solved]
« on: March 24, 2014, 08:49:35 am »
Well hello fellow Pepperminters. In my quest to customize the Panel Items, I deleted the right 'Log Off' button, and can not figure out how to get it back. Not a big deal, just frustrates me. Everything else I got the way I want it, and I do know the left Menu button has the Log Off button there built in.

P4 OS is extremely fast on my Acer D257 +2 MB ram. Morphed over from Joli OS 1.2, and of course abandoned the starter Windows 7 this machine came with. And converted my older HP netbook with Joli OS 1.2 & Windows XP to completely Peppermint Ice...that machine runs fine too .. use that 1 primarily for Pandora in the bedroom!

Regards,

Ron

I (or one of the other team members) need to get back with you with the specifics as I'm not in front of a Peppermint machine at the moment, but the application is called peppermint-logout and is set to not display by default, thus making it a bit difficult to add it back to the menu if it gets deleted. If you add a launcher for another application, you can edit the panel configuration manually and get it back. More details (hopefully) soon.

I did the same thing on one of my Peppermint 3 installs, so I am going to be curious about any answers you get on this post....  :)

The easiest way to add it back in is to open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
gedit ~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels/panel
You'll probably find yours ends with:-

Code: [Select]
Plugin {
    type = dclock
    Config {
        ClockFmt=%R
        TooltipFmt=%A %x
        BoldFont=0
        IconOnly=0
        CenterText=0
    }
}
Add::-

Code: [Select]
Plugin {
    type = launchbar
    Config {
        Button {
            id=peppermint-logout.desktop
        }
    }
}
to the end, so it now ends with:-

Code: [Select]
Plugin {
    type = dclock
    Config {
        ClockFmt=%R
        TooltipFmt=%A %x
        BoldFont=0
        IconOnly=0
        CenterText=0
    }
}

Plugin {
    type = launchbar
    Config {
        Button {
            id=peppermint-logout.desktop
        }
    }
}
SAVE the file .. then restart the panel with:
Code: [Select]
lxpanelctl restart

For reference, there's a default copy at
/usr/share/lxpanel/profile/Peppermint/panels/panel

DO NOT remove that copy

Grand .. worked .. although I had to reboot .. could not get the panel reset/reload command to take.

At any rate, log off button back.
