I don't use Chrome, but I usually fix keyring issues by having a blank keyring password.  That's suggested here as werll:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/31786/chrome-asks-for-password-to-unlock-keyring-on-startup

It's an older post but, to my knowledge, that should still work.

Hi guys, my earlier diagnosis was premature.  I am still getting the keyring request each time I start up Chromium. I just tried to implement scifidude79 solution. But the command line kept saying it does not recognize google-chrome. Then I tried Chrome on it's own. Still could not recognize. Finally I tried chromium. Still could not recognize program.  So now I am at a loss.

Would appreciate your further thoughts.

Okay I'm lost here, is the problem with Chrome or Chromium ?

Have you got your system set up to autologin ?

Could you please post the error message and which browser you are getting it from?

Believe you me, I am even more lost. The problem has been with Chromium.  Version 61.0.3163.100

Wouldn't you know it, the problem has disappeared now. It is NOT asking me for a keyring. Let's test this out a few days before remarking it as SOLVED.

Thanks

Yeah weird one, I've seen Chrome ask for the keyring before (which is normally fixed by either having a blank password in the keyring, or the same password as your login password and disabling autologin) but not Chromium :-\

Please let us know if the problem returns.

Today first startup and I got that keyring dialog box again. So it is NOT fixed. Forgive my ignorance but I always thought chrome  is an abbreviation for chromium. Did not realize they had branched into different products.

Do you think it is worth trying your solution,  PCNetSpec? If so, can you send me the step by step guide?

Thanks

Try this...

CLOSE CHROME and CHROMIUM

Run
Code: [Select]
mv -v ~/.local/share/keyrings ~/.local/share/keyrings-old
now REBOOT.

Once rebooted, open Chrome/Chromium, and if prompted for a keyring password LEAVE IT BLANK, it'll b*tch about unsafe storage but just continue.

I think I may have done this before. I wiped my password from other platforms such facebook etc. That's no problem since I have them saved.

It also allowed me to to launch chromium without the keyring dialog.  But let's test it out for a few days before marking this down as solved.

Thanks for your input PCNetSpec.
