Cannot inform kernal
« on: October 08, 2017, 04:56:40 pm »
I am a new Peppermint user.  I have never used linux before and am installing Peppermint 8 on an old Dell Dimension.  I am trying to overwrite the Windows XP system completely.   During the installation, I got this message:  "Partition 's' 1,2/dev/sda have been written, but we have been unable to inform the kernal of the change, probably because it/they are in use. As a result, the old partition's' will remain in use.  You should reboot now before making further changes."  What does this mean?  What should I do?

It means that somehow you've opened the partitions containing Windows.

You should reboot the computer to the LiveUSB/LiveDVD and start the installation again.
