Hi all. Been running P8 now for a couple of weeks. Wondering what the best controller for Steam would be?

Thanks

:)

XBOX 360 wired controller or a Steam controller.

Hi SuperPuter,

Welcome to the forums. I use both the XBOX and PS4 controllers - it's a matter of choice and which one works best with the majority of your games.

My needs are simple - Euro Truck Simulator 2 and both controllers work well - so I am sorted.

Not got around to buying a Steam Controller.

Most games should be mapped for Playstation controllers, but pretty much everyone maps for XBOX controllers for Linux.  I don't know why, but that's how it is.  The Steam controller can be forcibly mapped for any game, even games that don't use controllers.  Though, it has issues such as not being good for FPS games due to not having a second thumb stick for looking.  I have a couple Steam controllers, and an XBOX 360 wired controller for my Steam machine.  (and a keyboard/trackpad combo)

Steam client can map a PS3 or PS4 controller. Just go into Big Picture Mode and configure it. You can't go wrong with a 360 pad though, especially the wired ones. Just plug and play  :)

PS4 pad is unmatched imo. Friendly heads up for PS3 controller owners:
Install the xboxdrv driver and execute
Code: [Select]
sudo xboxdrv --detach-kernel-driver
when connecting your controller. This will in turn emulate a 360 pad.
