Browser frozen: Chromium [reSOLVED]
« on: September 23, 2017, 03:13:46 pm »
posting via cellphone... Chromium (and my computer) appear to be frozen in the last quarter of a file transfer. I am asking in the 'New Users' forum because this feels like a N00B query :-\

How do I close the browser without also interrupting the massive file transfer? Or am I required to do a REISUB since the transfer also appears to be frozen at 76%... I was moving ALL files from an elder SATA drive to tbe freshly formatted SSD...

@spence Ideally you'd pause the download.

However f I'm not mistaken you could force quit Chromium and restart the browser. Then head to chrome://downloads/

it should notice the download was interrupted. But if you hit cancel I believe it will be deleted.

Welp after a sufficient amount of time.. I attempted a ctrl>alt>T... with no terminal appearing... so off to REISUB i wandered... this "Aw Snap" crashing of Chromium is annoying me on what should be a cpu & memory set up more than sufficient to handle whatever is thrown at it...

@spence if I'm not mistaken you can quit Chromium cancel the download and restart the browser. Then head to chrome://downloads/

That should offer a chance to restart the download but it will atually check the progress of your partial download and start from there.

Appreciate the reply, but this wasn't a chromium download... it was a massive file transfer from an about to be recycled SATA drive to a freshly reformatted SSD taken from my already recycled HP Pavilion laptop...

Hopefully, the resumption of file transfer doesn't destroy anything

What am I missing here ? .. where does Chromium come into a disk to  disk file transfer ?

because the freezing of chromium... also locked up the entire machine in the midst of the transfer...  or vice versa... dunno how to determine which was the perpetrator of systemic freeze

No problems mate... happens to the best of us... dunno that there's any reason to continue this particular thread... not sure any of the log files would point to the perpetrator  :-\

Dunno what to tell you about Chromium other than to use Firefox :))

Any plugins in Chromium ? .. does it freeze without them ?

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration in Chromium ?
