Software manager does not work
« on: September 14, 2017, 07:41:04 pm »
Version:  Pep 8  32 bit

Hardware:  AMD Athlon XP 2000, 1 Gb ram
---------

It has never worked since install.  I had previously done all of the upgrades, but I also found this thread on the same problem and followed all of the instructions there too.

While that user solved their problem, it has not solved it for me.  Any additional help is appreciated.  (Synaptic works fine, btw)

No difference here.  I enter my password and after a few seconds it returns to the command prompt.  Both ways, it never even gets to the point of showing a button on the taskbar or popping a window.

Unless you want to go through all the log files looking for a clue, it might be easier to just install say 'lubuntu-software-center' in its place.
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install lubuntu-software-centerit shouldl then be in the menu at:-

menu > System Tools > Lubuntu Software Center

If you decide you don't like it, you can always uninstall it with:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge lubuntu-software-center

Ok, thanks, I'll give that a try, but I might take a peek at the logs too if I have time.  Can you tell me which logs to look at and where they are?

Also, can I safely uninstall 'mintinstall' (that's the stock manager right?)

Most likely the "Xorg.n.log" or maybe syslog, but it could be in any of the logs at
/var/log

or even in:-
~/.xsession-errors

Can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo ls /root/.linuxmint/mintinstall

The output is only this:

reviews.list  screenshots
Lubuntu manager loads up fine, so that's good news.

I just looked through several different logs and don't see anything that looks like it's related, however, my knowledge of Linux internals is limited.

Unless something stands out to you, I'll just stick with the Lubuntu manager and move on.  I'm pretty much out of time.

Nope that output was what I expected, so unless you want to spend time with us going through the logs you may be best served just sticking with the lubuntu-software-manager ?

Ok, yeah, I'll just use what works for now.   Thanks for the help!  :)
