Dislocker [Abandoned]
« on: August 23, 2017, 11:36:06 am »
Hi everyone,
I have a friend with a bitlocker protected HDD (windows 10) that broke. He asked me if I could try to recover any files from the drive.

I will be needing a EFI live-usb with dislocker to do the job. I've noticed that the current Debian Stretch has the package. What would you guys recommend? Load the Debian package onto a Peppermint live-usb or should I rather use zesty or artful packages found here:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=dislocker

Cheers

Personally I'd say use either Debian or Zesty.

But if you want to give it a go in 64bit Peppermint 7 or 8 you can install the zesty versions of libdislocker0.6 and dislocker (in that order) by downloading them from here:-

libdislocker0.6 64bit:
http://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/d/dislocker/libdislocker0.6_0.6.1-7_amd64.deb

dislocker 64bit:
http://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/d/dislocker/dislocker_0.6.1-7_amd64.deb

and double-clicking them (in that order) to install.

They certainly install, but I have no idea if they work.

You can always uninstall them if they don't work
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge dislocker libdislocker0.6

Thanks!
I'll give it a go tomorrow from a live-usb.
But, you don't think I'll need libfuse2 as well?

EDIT: ...ops! libfuse2 is already in there

Can not really update on any progress here.
I manage to boot the laptop last Friday from the live-usb but, now it doesn't boot anymore  :-\
"Game over"! At least it is still within the warranty period, so he will be getting a new hard drive from hp  :P

Thanks for the input!
