How to remove Transmission?
« on: July 01, 2014, 09:01:12 pm »
Hi all, I'm trying to remove Transmission because I prefer Deluge as my bit torrent client.  I tried apt remove --purge transmission.  This appears to work, except it doesn't.  Transmission is still sitting in menu system and opens.  If I try to remove it again.  I am told its not installed.  I've done a reboot and it is still there.  So, I'm now really confused.  What must I do to remove Transmission.  Many thanks.

Hmmm...... How about try:

Code: [Select]
apt purge transmission*

Note the asterisk at the end which should cause a regex search for every installed package that begins with "transmission" and then remove it. Then:

Code: [Select]
killall transmission

Just in case there are any currently running instances of it.

Thanks Kendall  ;).  The asterisk did the trick!  I did not know this function.  It is very useful to know.  You guys should be very pleased with yourselves.  Peppermint Five is simply stunning - I repeat a bit louder - simply STUNNING!  Thank you 8)!!

Yes, it's actually called transmission-gtk :)

The asterisk is just a "wild card" .. so
apt purge transmission*

Would purge every package whos name starts with "transmission"
such as
transmission-my

apt purge *transmission
would purge anything that's name ENDS with transmission
such as
my-transmission
