Currently (on Desktop) experiencing a new problem while doing this today, where's this coming from?

Code: [Select]
spence@antec ~ $ pluma  ~/.bashrc

** (pluma:3640): WARNING **: Couldn't register with accessibility bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

(pluma:3640): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to read the recently used resources file at '/home/spence/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but the parser failed: Failed to open file '/home/spence/.local/share/recently-used.xbel': Permission denied.

Unresolved on laptop... may leave unresolved on desktop too as I don't usually open programs in this manner, but its sorta odd the other two solutions stuck  :-\

Getting late here...
Do you have vim installed?
Can you open your .bashrc with it directly on the terminal?
Code: [Select]
vim .bashrc
Does it look as before?
To exit vim type
Code: [Select]
:q
This way you keep the file without any changes.

If it open? Are you confy editing it with vim?

Hi spence,

I think that your problem about the missing "recently used" stuff mentioned in this post (click) might be caused by the ownership/permissions being set incorrectly for the file

Code: [Select]
/home/spence/.local/share/recently-used.xbel
mentioned in the posting above where you attempted to start pluma from the terminal. Use nemo to look at who owns that file. It should indicate that the owner and the group are spence but it is probably set to root. To change it you can use nemo and click on the File menu entry. Select the item Root Window and then go to the file and check its Properties -> Permissions and change them as needed.

That should permit you to open pluma from the terminal without that warning about the recently-used.xbel file. And maybe it will also solve the "recently used" issue mentioned in that other thread.

Regards,

Ok spence, I had to try this before posting...
It's working here  ;)
I like to use vim and open the files directly in the terminal, so here we go...

Code: [Select]
vim .bashrc
you can use pluma once you sort out the permissions as slim mentioned.

Press Shift+I (capital i here) to enter edit mode in vim
Add the following line at the end of your .bashrc
Code: [Select]
alias sakura='sakura -c 65 -r 8'
Don't forget to leave an empty line after the last existing one and the new one you just enter.
After this save the file and exit vim. To do so press Esc followed by
Code: [Select]
:x
Now, back at the terminal type
Code: [Select]
source ~/.bashrc
This will reload your .bashrc

If you now type
Code: [Select]
sakura
it will open with your choosen size.

If you are not confy using vim then don't. Sort out the permissions as mentioned by slim and use pluma.

One question though... Did you change anything else on your .bashrc file, other than adding the new line?

Good luck!
Regards

EDIT: Some useful vim commands
Always use Shift+I to enter editing mode and Esc to exit editing mode
Code: [Select]
:qin case you didn't change anything and just want to quit
Code: [Select]
:q!in case you made changes but, don't want to apply the changes and want to keep the original file as it was
Code: [Select]
:xsave changes and exit vim

I don't know if this is any easier but it's the way I do it, because sometimes I don't have javascript enabled:

Leave the quotes and the spaces as they are. Without rebooting, does it work if you type
Code: [Select]
source ~/.bashrc

nope... but I'm done worrying about it... my apologies for hacking into your [SOLVED] thread...

No problem and no hard feelings  [emoji4]!
It works on my computer though.

Just one last thing...
It won't apply to the already open terminal, if that's what you would be expecting!? But, it will to all new "terminal windows" you open afterwards...

... eventually I realized I needed to close all instances... before trying to open a new window... #nohardfeelings may come back to this once other issues are settled. But I'll open a new thread [emoji8]

Hi!
Sorry for going back to an old post of mine here  :(
But, I’m having an issue this time around. I want sakura’s size to be -c 200 -r 28

I’ve fixed the launcher in the panel editing the terminal item so it reads
Code: [Select]
Command: sakura -c 200 -r 28
Also fixed, the size it opens with when launched from an existing terminal, by editing .bashrc and adding an alias to the file
Code: [Select]
alias sakura=’sakura -c 200 -r 28’
Now, editing the launcher for the menu doesn’t work?!  :-[
I’ve done
Code: [Select]
sudo vim /usr/share/applications/sakura.desktopand changed
Code: [Select]
Exec=sakurato
Code: [Select]
Exec=sakura -c 200 -r 28saved the file and exited vim

Upon rebooting, though the sakura.desktop file reverts back to the original one and the changes I’ve made are gone…  :o
I've also change the file when logged as root ...but, no way to make the changes stick  :o
