Wise words!

You are absolutly right, and that's why I asked her to choose in the first place.
Thanks!

Someone else might say that's akin to "so you're fascinated by guns/pron/fire/drugs .. here you go", and that it's or responsibility to "shape" young minds not just give them what they want.

KDE will destroy your life .. and should have been included in the "just say NO" campaign.

I'm all for Guns and Good Drugs (of course only legally prescribed pharmaceuticals) and I did an excellent job of telling my kids what was best for them (no they didn't listen) so I caved in and gave them what they wanted.

"just say NO" campaign.
I have found that this never works they just keep wearing you down until you give in.

You do it very well.  :P
I'm grumpy because I can be not because I'm old.

I taught my kids to be courteous and 'just say no, thank you.'

Worked, so far ...  ;)

@pin, SolydK no contest. https://solydxk.com/

It's essensially Linux Mint Debian Edition but in KDE https://solydxk.com/downloads/solydk/

Currently running Jessie but they'll probably move to Stretch pretty soon.

This is the only KDE system that didn't make me want to throw the partition out the window.

AJ Reissig has a great video on it.

Hi pin,

Good call josephd

They also do SolydX based on xfce and they also offer ee versions of both Distro's created by the community that run off testing rather than stable.

They both work very well.

Ok, just to let you know how it all ended up!
In the end... no KDE!

Finally, I ended up installing Bodhi Linux for her

Why?
Well, I got a good deal on a 32Gb SSD and needed something quite small. Bodhi comes only with 4 applications by default. Included is Midori web browser where they have fixed the problems with Google, so one can easily access Gmail using Midori

Bodhi ships with a modified version of the enlightenment desktop and that was different enough from my own system to make her buy it

Behind it all is the Ubuntu LTS base. Although, they have their own appstore which is nice for her, I can still use apt-get in the terminal ... and slowly introduce her to the CLI.

The only drawback is that I'm no longer able to play with Void Linux, since that was the SSD I had it on

Another young mind saved :))

Although she does now have the E17 rabbit hole to negotiate, which IIRC can be 'just' as overwhelming (as far as options goes) .. so maybe she's still teetering on the edge ;)

Humour aside - Any Linux was a good choice :)

Yes, but Moksha as Bodhi calls it, is a slightly simplified E17. Actually I quite like enlightenment myself and terminogy is a nice terminal emulator. It’s not as functional as Xfce, but hey... nothing is perfect, at least it's not KDE.

Above all it's not windows or mac, it's linux as you just said.
