Because The Internet Shouldn't Have a Slow Lane
« on: July 10, 2017, 08:47:06 pm »
Hello Peppermint forum,

I received an email from the American Library Association today.  The email's theme was on net neutrality and on the ongoing effort to save and protect it.  Within the email was this link entitled JULY 12TH: INTERNET-WIDE DAY OF ACTION TO SAVE NET NEUTRALITY

Please feel free to check out the links below if you're concerned about the future of net neutrality, or if you're just interested in learning more about the subject.

Here are the links:

Or, here's the the web version of the email I received from the American Library Association that will eventually get you to the above link:

Thank you, everyone. ;)

Hi mac,

Did you notice that Opera, Vivaldi, DuckDuckGo and Startpage were on the list of signatories --even Amazon?  But I didn't see the names of Microsoft or Google (Alphabet), or Apple unfortunately.  Those names could help make a big difference.

I did notice.  It will probably all come down to which lobbyist group has the most money.   It's the new "golden" rule.

PeppermintOS are up for the fight...

I've added the widget to the main website, so anyone visiting the site on the 12th of July will see this:

Hold on, VinDSL!  Only place that bet if your surrounded by women wearing red dresses.  If not, bet on black.  Phew!! ;D

@mac
mac, I was wrong, Google and Apple ARE fighting along with us on this one. (I still don't know where Microsoft stands on this issue.  :-\ ) The bad actors here are the big ISPs such as AT&T, Comcast, Verizon and Cox , and the Federal Communication Commission head himself, Ajit Pai, who even admits that "nothing is broken".

Why the 12 July protest to protect net neutrality matters

Well it's the 12th and the wordpress plugin doesn't appear to be working on our main website :-\

Also visiting amazon, github, kickstarter, etc. doesn't seem to result in the widget being displayed (and they are on the list of sites "supposedly" taking part).

In fact so far the only page I've found where it's working is
https://www.battleforthenet.com/july12/
itself.

I wouldn't look for much out of Microsoft and nothing from AT&T and the like.  These guys have a lot to gain through controlling the 'net.
Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.    Happy 12th!   ;)

EDIT: I Stand Corrected.  Look at THIS

@PCNetSpec

GoFCCYourself.com ought to get you there too! (Just copy and paste.)  For most of us I'd suggest just clicking on + Express in order to keep things simple.  Then, just make your case. ;)

As for me, as well as emailing, I called my representative and senators today.  Took advantage of the opportunity to give them a piece of my mind to share my thoughts on this and another issue too.  I don't seem to think that superdelegates are nearly as super as they do! ;D

I had to edit out what I wrote earlier; AT&T is trying to put one over on us. >:(

AT&T’s ‘support’ for net neutrality means tricking customers to fight against it

Read carefully
