Hi mccrack1985, welcome to the Peppermint Forum.  It's very nice to meet you  :).  Could you please provide use with some more details about your machine.  Boot up Peppermint 8 into a live session.  Open a terminal window with the following keystrokes:

Ctrl+Alt+t

Run, (Copy & Paste) the following command into the terminal window and post back the output:
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz
Please supply information on what type of Live media you're using, (DVD or USB device) and how you installed Peppermint 8 to it.  Once we have this information, we can start to figure out what's happening  ;).

Could you please remember to encapsulate terminal outputs with the Insert, Code # function.  For extra long outputs, please use the Spoiler, Sp function.  If youíre a Chromium Browser and/or a Google Chrome user, please don't combine these functions.  For some reason they donít work well together with these browsers.  Only use one or the other  ;).  These forum functions preserve the original format of the output.  This makes it easier for future visitors to relate to their own issues.  These functions are found in the forum editor, above the,  :-[ Embarrassed and  the :'( Cry emoticon respectively.  Use the Preview button to check how it'll look in the forum  ;).
Backup! Backup! Backup! If you're missing any of these -  you ain't Backed Up!
For my system info please L/click HERE.

I am using a usb, and used
Code: [Select]
dd bs=4M if=/path/to/iso of=/dev/path/to/usb status=progress && sync
to make usb bootable.

I have tried installing from the beginig, I have tried installing through the live interface. I have tried installing with a special partition setup, I have tried installing with complete erase.

I have tried with internet access, I have tired w/o internet. I have tried "update as we go" and not.

again, nothing special, I am missing a packaged or lib or maybe I found something wrong with the 32bit iso.

Hmm .. maybe try booting to the Live Desktop, then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-peppermint
then run the installer from the desktop icon.

Obviously that will mean you don't see the slideshow during the install, but it should still install .. so just wait until it says it's finished.

Either your ISO is broken, or you're using a LiveUSB with persistence where you've broken the packages .. because that command should work without issue (I've just tested it).

Burn a new LiveUSB (preferably without persistence, but definitely without updating it), and do not connect to the internet (either by ethernet cable or wireless) during the install.
