Peppermint 8 - "xenial-proposed" repo warning
« on: July 06, 2017, 01:31:57 pm »
If anyone has manually enabled the xenial-proposed repo in Peppermint 8, I STRONGLY suggest you don't accept the latest update to:-
xserver-xorg-core-hwe-16.04 (2:1.19.3-1ubuntu1~16.04.1)
it WILL break your system (as it currently does Ubuntu ::)).

Just in case you already have, here's the fix...

disable the xenial-proposed repo by editing:-
/etc/apt/sources.list
and changing the line
Code: [Select]
deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial-proposed restricted main multiverse universe
to
Code: [Select]
# deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial-proposed restricted main multiverse universe
and saving the file

then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core-hwe-16.04=2:1.18.4-1ubuntu6.1~16.04.1 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04=1:7.7+13ubuntu4~16.04.2
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xorg xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-input-all-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-input-evdev-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-input-wacom-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-all-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-ati-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-fbdev-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-intel-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-qxl-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-radeon-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-vesa-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-vmware-hwe-16.04 xorg xserver-xorg-core-hwe-16.04

The xenial-proposed repo is NOT enabled by default, so there's no need for anyone who's not manually enabled it to worry :)
(BTW, you should NEVER manually enable the xenial-proposed repo unless you know how to dig yourself out of these holes and enjoy being a guinea pig for upstream 'proposed' packages .. the whole point in this repo is for 'testing' packages before they make it into the default repos, so occasionally something will break stuff)
