screen shots on HP laptop? prtsc key not working? [SOLVED]
« on: July 01, 2017, 04:58:26 pm »
Hey folks.... capturing a screenshot has always been a mystery... as in where the frakk is the shot stored? I'm wondering if this old tutorial from the P5 days still applies?  you know before  I mess up my system  more deeply?

When you hit PrtSc in PM7 or 8 the screenshot should appear on your desktop

Is this an HP laptop by any chance ?
(if so we may have to make some modifications to the keymap for PrtSc to work .. I do on mine)

Okay gimme a while to post instruction for modifying the keymap .. gotta dig them up from whichever spectral dimension my notes disappear into.

Will turning on the Heisenberg Collectors be helpful Cap'n?

My notes often travel different dimensions  ;)

Can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls /usr/share/X11/xkb
because it looks like we may have already done this before :-\

Okay that's odd...

Can you open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
xev
then hit the PrtScr key 3 times

then without moving the cursor through the white box (or it'll generate tons more output), skirt around the box and close the window with the close button top right (X)

Then post what's in the terminal

This line bothers me
Code: [Select]
    XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 107
have you used xmodmap somewhere to modify the key ?

If you run:
Code: [Select]
xmodmap -e "keycode 107 = Sys_Req"
does PrtSc now work and leave a screenshot on the desktop ?
