(Hd or others too) video not show well full screen
« on: June 21, 2017, 10:25:50 am »
I removed chromium because i could not see hd videos well, there was loading ball all time.

I noticed i could download and install google chrome 64 bit to this laptop i have peppermintos 8 ubuntu as system.

Now videos not show loading ball anymore but other problems arrive: when i change to full screen, picture starts waving, not play smooth?
So i can watch only small screen it seems, without those waves.

I think there could be problem with any videos, not just hd, seems depend if use full-screen or not?

I guess there are settings somewhere but writing this i am without solution.

I have Hdmi cable going from laptop to tv. But i am quite sure in laptop more small screen could be same waving problem. Anyway i will test that later too but i think same picture should be seen
without waves in full-screen mode, if there would not be this as problem now. Only quality could be different in other monitor.

Also moving internet pages, there seems somekind waves, not move smooth, when i move page up or down?

Other problem with changing from chromium to chrome:

chromium-browser --app=https://forum.peppermintos.com/

= this not work anymore, how should i write above right , something like chrome-browser ? there read also above "peppermint forum (Ice ssb)"

google-chrome --app=https://forum.peppermintos.com/
or just use ICE to recreate the SSB with Chrome as the selected browser.

If this vireo "waving" problem is only ever online .. have you tried Firefox ?

Yes, well I should probably test Firefox too how it plays videos. But there should be solution to chrome anyway.
I would like use chrome as firefox is not quite original version in here but something differences other.

I remember there is more settings about how screen moves in firefox.

If this is a "Chrome" issue, there's not much we can do about it.

Maybe try setting Chrome to not use hardware acceleration, and see if that makes a difference.

Are these videos "flash" or "html5" ?

Yes i try that next. Firefox was same problem with tested video, it stop all time, then move little, then stop again.. but not show loading ball like chromium. Not good anyway.

I am not sure, but i watched last moviesub websites hd-marked neverending story.
Then some youtube.com music video i tested before. But more with movie type video.

I have to check what type they are.

How much RAM do you actually have?

Hardware acceleration OFF was not any difference, there comes those waves when picture moves.
Only good is at least in my system, google chrome is fast browser enough. Not freeze to load more, then show few seconds and stop again.. like those chromium and firefox does.

I guess there is some drivers to graphics card not good or things like that.

Acer aspire one, 4gb memory, 320gb hard drive..

Could this be a wireless bandwidth issue .. is it the same if you connect to your router via an ethernet cable ?

i use lumia635 mobile phone 4g connection, that is shared to wifi laptop.

other:

i noticed in 64-bit peppermintos at least "Turn on the firewall

1.5. It's advisable to turn on the firewall (it's disabled by default):
"

This was really OFF. I have never used so long time internet with firewall OFF !
I before installed 32-bit peppermintos to desktop computer, there i remember firewall was already ON ..but now i m gonna check that again.

How could it be that someone offer system have firewall OFF first offer ? I could not believe it but glad i started to learn more reading things from internet.. :) https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/first-peppermint

Should i do somekind security check now, when i have maybe two days used internet with firewall OFF ?? Holy moly.
I guess i am safe because traffic goes from mobile phone to laptop, so there in lumia phone is one firewall too ?

I am bit surprised, i have read before someone had about hour or two without firewall and computer was in serious problems quickly. I had much more long time and can not see any security problems?

edit: yes, 32-bit was also as first offer setting: firewall disabled (= welcome hackers ). Well i put it on also but not know much about more those settings there.

If you need a firewall, turn it on (it is included OOTB, along with the GUI to make enabling it easy) .. if you do not (because like the vast majority of users you're on a private network behind a NAT router), why should you have one running by default ?

A firewall is not a "switch it on and forget it" piece of software, improperly configured it can cause an unsuspecting user all sorts of problems, so as most will  be in a position where they don't require one in the first place and there's no "one size fits all configuration", we leave it to the user (along with just about every other Linux distro).

Guess i would have to update graphics card driver? http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/linux

there is long list but not hd 6290 .. something like 6000 series .. very difficult they have made to get things work.

then i should know that hebrea commands in terminal to first uninstall old drivers and so.. ok..

Is this "waving" the same thing as "screen tearing" (do a forum search for that)?

well, it is like when picture scrolls to left or right, things dont stay 100% .. or like someone cut parts of them, and they go back but you can see that, not nice.

i think graphics card can not follow that speed just.

so it is up to ubuntu team to update those drivers, if they automatically put new? there is not working those auto detect tools that windows users can enjoy.

here in free lunch section, must go hard way.
