Oh the joy
« on: June 19, 2017, 04:15:11 pm »
A while back, my missus decided she needed Windows on her laptop which was previously running PM7 perfectly because she wanted to use a piece of hardware that required her to succumb to blackmail and run locked down proprietary software that would only run in Windows

So she got the IT guy in her work (Scot) to wipe PM7 and install Windows10, I was pretty pissed off not because she installed Windows10 but the stupid reasons for doing it and I told her if anything goes wrong with it don't ask me for help because I don't ever want to set eyes on it get Scot to sort it

Some time passed and I reluctantly agreed to install the wireless printer which took me over half an hour and I never put a foot wrong it would have took me less than 30 seconds in Linux

then a few days ago she asked me if I would set up a Remote Connection to her office computer which she previously had working in PM7 with Remmina I wasn't very enthusiastic and told her to look for Remote Desktop and just put the details in herself but she asked me again tonight saying she didn't know what to do, so once again I agreed and spent the best part of an hour trying to get a RDP connection and failed, it just wouldn't accept the credentials and I know they were right eventually I give up and told her I wasn't wasting another minute of my life on this, take it in to your friend Scot and get him to sort it out

No wanting to be completely unhelpful I Installed Remmina on my laptop running PM8 put in exactly the same credentials and it connected straight away in under 5 minutes including the time it took to install Remmina

Boy did that give me some satisfaction am I sad or what  :D

No I have absolutely no problem with Scot, Scot only did what he was asked to do  :)

Work 'wives/husbands' ...  gotta love 'em.   ::)

If Mr I.T. Scot wants to shoulder the responsibility, so much the better.

It's on him now, right ?

BTW, I don't know if that's a UK thing, too, or just something here in His Majesties' former rebel colony.

Absolutely  :D

You know what's really ironic about this (and I've just remembered this) a good while back when the missus first asked Scot if she could remotely access her work PC from home he laughed when she told him she was using Linux and told her she needed a Windows PC

I actually hate myself for feeling smug about this but I just can't help myself

Nice submarine!

Satisfaction of achievement should not make anyone sad..Windows 10 on the other hand, that's another story.
