Wonder why they don't just get rid of airbags and make car drivers wear a helmet if it's that unsafe in the tin box :))

[EDIT]

Might also cut down on the amount of phoning whilst driving.

They do in Rally cars and other motor sport classes. Lorry and Van drivers have to (by law) wear "temporary blindness and brain haemorrhage at 30 feet vests" err sorry hi-viz vests, lol, why not   :D

BTW, it's been an hour now, and the 'insider' pre-release download is only 46% complete.

I would imagine the MS servers are a bit busy today.   ;D

I was going to update a Vista machine earlier but gave up after half an hour of "checking for updates". Then again, that might be normal.

Mid afternoon and Saturday, tinternet maxed out, but an hour to download updates, well it be M$low, lol   ;)

Okay, just shy of 2 hours for the 'insider' install to complete.

Not too painful.

Bring on the Linux !

Not sure.  I'm saying the whole process, with multiple restarts, et cetera, took two hours to complete.

The first time I installed '10' it took over a day.  THAT was painful !   8)

It is the updates that do my head in, requiring NUMEROUS hours to do.....lol   >:(

The first time I installed '10', there was less than one-hour left on the *free* upgrade offer.  It was for a refurb machine that I had just purchased.

The machine came with winders 7, which I'm forced to use at work, and hate.  I figured, what the hell, and started the upgrade process, only to find out that I couldn't install '10' because (supposedly) it could cause harm to my computer, if I didn't use the proprietary Dell drivers.  I was supposed to contact Dell and purchase officially-approved '10' media, with the proper drivers, through them.

So, I haxored the *free* installation media, and I was on my way, with like 15 minutes to spare.  I started the download, which was creeping, and went to bed.

Four hours later, I awoke and got ready for work.  '10' was still downloading.

When I got home from work, something or another had timed out, and I had to restart.  I figured that was it, but it successfully started where it left off.

Anyway, several hours later, I was ready to go over to Dell and download the drivers, only to discover several pages of different versions of the same drivers, for the same machine - depending on the hardware config, which can vary considerably.  So, that took a lot of research, trial and error.

When I finally got the right mix of drivers, then it was off to find the correct Dell update and diagnostic tools - once, again, several different vers.

Anyway, I didn't have a stopwatch going throughout the whole escapade, but it took a good day and a half to install '10' on my desktop Dell.

The laptop installation wasn't nearly as bad, but still - this 'insider' build gets a LOT of updates - some are incremental, taking minutes -  and some are cumulative updates, taking hours to complete.  And, you get them several times a week.  I actually missed the updates, when I switched back to the stable version.

Hope that makes sense ...  ;)
