Can't Remove certain SSBs with Ice.
« on: June 27, 2014, 05:59:06 am »
Hi there.  I have customized my menu to have a Radio category , as described in the following link: How to Add a Category to the LXDE menu.  I was in the process of making the new category when Ice froze up while I was configuring BBC Radio3.  (There was cable engineer working of the internet connections in the junction box on the street).   All the BBC station will configure using Ice until I try to configure BBC Radio3.  I receive the warning:
Quote
Warining: File Duplication Error
The name of the SSB will cause an existing SSB to
be overwritten.  To prevent this, change a letter in the name. Continue anyway?
If I change the category label to Radio in:
Code: [Select]
~/.local/share/applications/ I have removed all the BBC Radio Stations from Ice and in
Code: [Select]
~/.local/share/applications/and in any of the folders in:
Code: [Select]
menu://applications/When I open Ice there is the original BBC Radio3 SSB listed, I know this because I used a home made logo saved as a .xpm file in:
Code: [Select]
/usr/share/pixmaps It can't be removed via Ice and I have not idea where it stored.  I've checked using Catfish and it just appears to be a phantom file.  Also if I continue to make BBC SSBs they appear automatically in both the Radio Station category and the Internet category.  I've tried removing and reinstalling Ice.  Ice seems to be bundled together with Chromium-Browser because the Aura version of that was reinstalled along with Ice. That made no difference.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Many thanks  ;).

Hi Mark, here is the requested outputs:
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/applications
Spoiler (click here to view / hide)

And
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/ice

.  It appears to be the BBC Radio3 that causes the issue.  It shows up in Internet and Radio Stations.  Many thanks.

OK, so what happens if you allow adding the Radio3 one to continue and be added ?
(ie. which SSB now takes you to Radio3 that shouldn't)

Which one gets overwritten ? .. bbcradio.desktop ?

also, you might want to delete the backup files ..  files that end with "~" .. such as bbcradio.desktop~

I've cleared all instances of BBC Radio3  from the menu.  I have reinstalled the station using "Internet" as the default location and "use site favicom" as the default logo.   In, ~/.local/share/applications I changed the "Categories" to "Radio" using gedit.

After the file is saved, BBC Radio3 is moved to Radio Stations but it also remains in the Internet location.

I noticed that the, "StartupWMClass=Chromium" is Chromium for all of the SSBs even though the majority have been made after removing Chromium and installing Chrome.  I don't know whether this has any significance.

I doubt if the WMClass has anything to do with this.

Now what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.local/share/applicationsand have you tried restarting the panel .. or logging off/on ?

Yes, I've tried restarting the panel, logging off and in and restart.  That made no difference.

I thought you said you'd made a BUNCH of radio SSB's .. but it's only showing two.

Just a quick note, the way Ice determines file names is by filtering out all characters that aren't alphabetical and then making them all lower case. In this way, for example, if naming something "BBC Radio3" and something else "BBC Radio4", Ice wouldn't be able to tell the difference and would attempt to overwrite the former with the latter (or vice versa). This would happen because Ice only sees "bbcradio" for each one. If you want to have more, similar entries, then you'd need to add additional alphabetical characters to the name somewhere.

So roman numerals would be better

BBC Radio III
and
BBC Radio IV
etc.

I had up to BBC Radio4Extra but I deleted them while I was tidying up.  It looks very much like what Kendal is suggesting is the issue.  I'm going to delete everything relating to the BBC and retry with a different name format.  Strange, this is the identical format I was using with the PM4 version of Ice. I will let you know what happens.

"What have the Romans ever done for us?" For one, they fixed this issue  :D.   Using Roman numerals solved this mystery.  Thanks guys  :)!

All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, and working SSB's what have the Romans ever done for us?
