Windows bootloader (SOLVED)
« on: April 21, 2017, 01:39:36 pm »
Hi!
Peppermint is not really new to me, I had it running on my old Asus Eee PC 1001px for a while.
Bought a new Asus F540L today and, you know, first things first... remove Windows 10 and install peppermint 7 😎!
Question??
How do I know if Windows bootloader is still there? I don't want it! Want everything that has any connection with Windows removed.

Thanks!

Hi pmppinho, and welcome to the forum :)

If it's new I'm guessing it's a UEFI system ?

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
efibootmgr -vand
Code: [Select]
sudo ls /boot/efi/EFI

Nope, no sign of a Windows EFI bootloader ;)

Great! Thanks!
Just wanted to be on the safe side 😆!
By the way, everything went problem free and I removed Windows 10 and installed Peppermint 7 in about 30min.
If any one else is planning to do the same...
-Power up you new PC
-Disable Fast start and reboot
-Press F2 at boot and Disable Secure boot, Save and exit

Note: No options to boot from USB, don't worry.

-Shutdown
-Insert your USB while the PC is off
-Power up and enter BIOS/UEFI again using F2
-Now USB is there!! Select it, save and exit
-Wecome to Peppermint 7
-Install and enjoy.

As said, all of this took me about 30min. Smooooth!

Thank you guys for the great work! Excellent distro.

Hi PCNetSpec!
Great! When will it be out?!
Still this year?
And I just did a lot of system configurations 😥!

If testing goes well without too many bugs discovered that need fixing, hopefully end of May / beginning of June .. but please be aware we don't set a static release date, it's ready ONLY when we consider it ready ;)

That's great!
Looking forward to it.
I know you guys don't set static release date 🖒!
Would it possible to keep some stuff? Like for example, configurations of libreoffice.

Your config files should work, possibly the whole /home folder since the underlying Ubuntu base will be the same. Someone will confirm that or otherwise later on, I think :)
