sudo lshw -C multimedia
and

aplay -l

No, the laptop has no sound.

Whatever I play, no sound. It is an Acer Aspire 5935G with Dolby Home theatre sound facility integrated into the laptop. It used to work just fine with PM5, but with PM7: no sound.

Thank you in advance,

LRS

Yes, but are you after sound over the HDMI port, or via the speakers ?

Can you check if you have audio via the headphone socket ?

Can you also, run this command
Code: [Select]
wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh && ./alsa-info.sh
When prompted hit the "O" key to select <OK> .. then hit the "U" key to select <UPLOAD/SHARE> .. Then hit the the "N" key to select <NO>

You should be back in the terminal with some output similar to this:-

Quote
Your ALSA information is located at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=43c4acefe916af4857c21068abef65e5d9106e47

Please inform the person helping you.

Can you post the link (highlighted in red) back here.

Are you sure you haven't just got the headphones selected as the output device in PulseAudio Volume Control ?

[EDIT]

Looking at the alsa script link, are you sure you haven't just got the "Speaker Playback Volume" set to 0 ? .. try running:
Code: [Select]
alsamixer
and see if there's a "Speaker Playback Volume" setting.

[END EDIT]

Try this
Code: [Select]
sudo /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and add a NEW LINE at the bottom that reads
Code: [Select]
options snd-hda-intel model=acer
SAVE the file, and reboot to test.

If that doesn't work, try replacing that new line with
Code: [Select]
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
SAVE and reboot to test.

This is the screenshot for the alsamixer command.

I can't find any "Speaker Playback Volume" setting unless it is called "Master".

This is the soundmixer window. Loudspealers are slected.

Allthough I can see the bar moving, there is no sound. I also checked all hardware switches, but no result.

Run
Code: [Select]
alsamixer
then hit F6

Choose your internal audio card

Now do you see more options ?
