Good one --and, believe it or not, that will probably happen, and it might even improve it! ;)

I never imagined I'd see this day.  I thought Unity was Mark Shuttleworth's baby.  :o

[T]here are a lot of people happily running Peppermint ICE which hasn't been receiving ANY updates for a while now .. and I personally would STILL consider that MUCH more secure than any version of Windows with up-to-date AV/Anti-malware ;)

Growing Ubuntu for cloud and IoT, rather than phone and convergence

Cloud okay (they're already a major player there). but what's the betting they have some great ideas but then miss the IoT boat in the same way they were the first with the "dock your phone and turn it into a computer" idea yet told everyone else about it so they could beat them to market (in any meaningful way).

Both Apple and Samsung (and even Microsoft) will be the beneficiaries of that (IMHO great) idea .. with Apple yet again attempting to patent an idea that was not theirs ::)

and
http://www.theverge.com/2017/3/30/15120312/samsung-dex-microsoft-continuum-pc-phone-battle

I'll never understand why Canonical/Ubuntu didn't patent and push that idea :-\

That make a lot of sense, PCNetSpec.  There's no reason why Canonical should be creating ideas for Apple or Microsoft.  As you say, Canonical needs to patent these ideas and then keep them a lot closer to the vest.

I'm still finding it odd that when you consider Ubuntu is #2 on Distrowatch, and Ubuntu Gnome is #56 (the lowest of all the *buntu's) .. what exactly made them think "I know, let's switch to Gnome .. that's obviously what people want on Ubuntu"  :-\

If this is a supposed to be some kind of return to listening to the community, I'm just not getting it ??? .. obviously whatever DE they chose makes no difference to me/us, but I am hoping the switch to Gnome allows them to concentrate more on the non DE related core component polishing, packaging, and testing (which by inheritance does make a difference to me/us) .. you know, the stuff that made Ubuntu great in the first place. Ubuntu wasn't originally about the DE, it was about the packaging polish that lifted the entire Linux game and dragged everyone along with it to new heights.

This news has given me real hope, so c'mon Ubuntu, let's see a return to what you were good at .. so we ALL benefit from your "A game" again :)
