So you want to try adding "acpi=off" as a kernel boot parameter ?

to the LiveCD/LiveUSB ?

[EDIT]

Am I missing something here .. I thought we'd already tried acpi=off further up the page  :-\
whenever I try adding acpi=off it always results in this if i remember correctly
Code: [Select]
/init: line 7: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found
/init: line 7: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found
stdin: Not a typewriter
/init: line 7: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found
/init: line 7: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found

Sounds odd, but try either

a) disabling the floppy drive in the BIOS

or

b) addin this kernel boot parameter

floppy.allowed_drive_mask=0

When I tried floppy.allowed_drive_mask=0 it kept repeating the same thing.

I already disabled the floppy drive.

I tried to use minimal CD to install ubuntu but it's stuck on IRQ #9.
So, I tried to boot into recovery and it was stuck on Sony Jogdial.

try adding these kernel boot parameters
sony-laptop.compat=1
and/or
sonypi.compat=1

or

sony-laptop.no_spic=1
and/or
sonypi.check_ioport=0

Too bad, it didn't work. Thanks for helping me. I'll just stick with Debian. :)

My *guess* would be:  https://www.kernel.org/   :)

I've been running Peppermint 5 on top of a Linux 3.16rc mainline kernel with no probs (9-sec boot)...

Personally, I'd try the latest kernel, before switching to plain ol' Debian.   ;)

Ahh .. an older kernel, same series as Peppermint 3.

Anyway, sorry we couldn't find a working solution .. there'll be a peppermint 5 respin soon with an updated kernel .. maybe, just maybe that might help .. but I wouldn't necessarily hold my breath, kernel regressions like this unless they affect a lot of people can go unnoticed for some time :(
