Streaming Videos - Amazon & Acorn
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:13:52 pm »
Please let me know if you are able to get videos on both Amazon Prime and Acorn TV to work.  I am using Peppermint Five and I also believe Four had the same problem.

In Peppermint Four, HAL could be installed and Amazon Instant Video be made to work, with Peppermint Five, there's a workaround with a plugin called "Pipelight".

Install Pipelight using the instructions here:

http://pipelight.net/cms/install/installation-ubuntu.html

And then install Firefox with:

Code: [Select]
apt install firefox

Firefox doesn't make use of the PepperFlash plugin that Chrome/Chromium uses so it's free to use Pipelight to whatever extent. You should now be able to watch Amazon Instant Video. I'm not familiar with Acorn TV so I can't comment there.

Additionally, running the following:

Code: [Select]
sudo pipelight-plugin --enable silverlight

And installing a User Agent switcher in Firefox will allow for Netflix playback.

Kendall, thanks for your assistance.  Both streaming video sites work with Google Chrome on my Acer Chomebook.  I was just trying to replicate the experience on the desktop with Peppermint 5.   No big deal since I will watch both sites on the Acer when I am on the go and watch both on Roku at home.

By the way I know N.C. well since I was born there and lived in Asheboro for 22 years:.  Also a graduate of UNC at Chapel Hill.

Keep with the inspired work by frequent visits to the pub.
