screen tearing issue - extended help needed
« on: March 14, 2017, 05:13:18 am »
Hi,
I do not know if the issue is with PM 7.

If I run Scientific Linux 7.3/ Cent OS 7 on Virtual Box, I get screen tearing issue when moving windows or watching videos.

I understand the following code fixes issue in PM 7. But it works on Intel Drivers.

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
echo -e 'Section "Device"\n Identifier "Intel Graphics"\n Driver "Intel"\n Option "AccelMethod" "sna"\n Option "TearFree" "true"\nEndSection' | sudo tee /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

How will I fix it if issue is occurring Virtual Box. I am not saying issue occurred in VBOX.
This is PM 7 group but if any Linux expert wants to help me I will be happy. I have posted in other communities as well. But no answers yet.

Thanks,
Harish Pathangay

You're hosting Virtual Box in Windows 10 as in THIS_POST, is that correct?  If so, you would be better served asking on a Windows forum and / or giving the guys @ virtualbox.org a bit more time to respond.

i am a newbie Linux person.
sometimes do I over exaggerate things. I do not know.
you tell me after viewing video. what is wrong during window movement? it stutters when moving.
is it screen tearing or compositor issue or software issue? I do not have any idea other than observed result.

small size only - 3MB

even if you confirm that it is screen tear issue, it will help me. because I am even wondering whether it is a compositor issue or software version issue etc..
even if my interpretation of the observed effect as screen tearing in a technical terms.

yeah...I am lame sometimes. I know...do not give me that look... :) just for fun.

thanks,

Erm, this is a "Peppermint" support forum, not a Virtualbox, Windows, or even a general Linux support forum.

This question has absolutely nothing to do with Peppermint which is neither the host or guest (nor for that matter anything to do with GNU/Linux Gaming)

You're also not new to Linux, you've been a regular user of this forum for well over a year .. A word of advice, misrepresenting both Peppermint and yourself is unlikely to earn you many friends around here ;)
