That's because the version in that repo has been updated to python-crypto_2.6.1-6ubuntu0.16.04.2_amd64.deb

Run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get upgrade
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

okay, but why did mint update work properly on my Antec computer and not the laptop? Both were turned off the same number of days, Antec did all lf the above update/upgrade/dist-upgrade with no hiccups  :-\...

New updates had been added to the repos and you hadn't selected "Refresh" before accepting the downloads .. so the package cache was not aware of the changes in the repos yet, so was attempting to download the old package versions which no longer existed.

If you'd done it 30 minutes later it would have been fine because mintupdate updates its package cache in the background every 30 minutes (by default).

I always run "refresh" before accepting updates, but if you ever get the same warnings again, just click "refresh" then try again ;)

refresh, hadn't ever even noticed that button before... i think my brain is wearing blinders of late... All that said, I tend to let mint-update tell me when it needs to update since sometime back in the peppermintOne days when I quit worrying about what was being updated. Still a mystery as the laptop gave me the same error the next day even though it had been turned on, thus likely updating in the background before i checked into this thread again... oh well... all is well this morning.
