Crashing left right & sideways has recommenced. I installed gkrellm and it reveals alternating 100% CPU usage between the 1st, 2nd & 5th cores that lasts for several minutes each...

I'm baffled as I only ever have a single browser open at any one time, and right now only have the peppermint forum ssb open as CPU2 rails at a solid 100%

Hi spence,

You can open a terminal and run

Code: [Select]
topor (if installed)

Code: [Select]
htopto see which processes are hogging your cpu. Who knows? Maybe the browsers are not the bad guys  :-\

Regards,

plugin-container is at 100% across three 3 CPUs. CPU0 was at 100% during hibernation,  but now jumping between CPU3, 5 & 7 mostly 3...

top gave me
Code: [Select]
plugin-containewhile htop gave me
Code: [Select]
opt/seamonkey/plugin-container / usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so - greomni /opt/seamonkey/omni.ja /... /...
but now as I type, CPU4 has been at 100% for several minutes with no corresponding usage in htop

See if this helps (switching from the NPAPI flashplayer to the PPAPI version):
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge flashplugin-installerthen
Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:peppermintos/p7-pepperflashthen
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get updatethen
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash bunsen-pepperflash Now close ALL web browser instances and reopen one.

Now go here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/
or here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

and check it says:-
You have version 24,0,0,221 installed

I'm installing this to the /opt where Seamonkey is...

100% CPU Usage is gone, but neither Firefox, nor Seamonkey will open any web pages... using Chromium at the moment

additional edit, a minute later firefox, an ff ssb & Seamonkey opened...  hmmm

You have version 24,0,0,221 installed

So this helped me shed the long blocks of 100% CPU usage which was causing all the crashing.  I was able to confirm the 24,0,0,221 install via Firefox, FF SSB & Chromium, but my nightly version of Seamonkey locked up when trying to verify from  within that browser. Verifying from within Firefox recreates the 100% CPU usage, but in shorter bursts, w/o crashing of browser.  I find that strange given the CPU I installed...
Code: [Select]
inxi -C
CPU:       Quad core Intel Core i7-7700 (-HT-MCP-) cache: 8192 KB
           clock speeds: max: 3601 MHz 1: 800 MHz 2: 800 MHz 3: 800 MHz
           4: 3601 MHz 5: 1000 MHz 6: 800 MHz 7: 800 MHz 8: 800 MHz

No crashes yet, but Chromium is now also showing 100% CPU usage again...  :-\
Ahh well, I'm going to be away from this computer for a while, so y'all have a nice weekend.

Still having usability issues as the flash plugin keeps hogging one CPU after another at 100% Is this possibly an issue with letting the computer drop into hibernation/standby and flash being incompatible with that? I've been letting it do that rather than turning off the computer so I don't have to reboot the wifi...

What is telling you flash is using 100% CPU ?

And when you're doing what ?

What is telling you flash is using 100% CPU ?

the GKrellM system monitor, or top, or htop

And when you're doing what ?

if I leave the sytem turned on and allow it to go into hibernate/suspend mode overnight, the monitor tells me upon awakening that:

Code: [Select]
opt/seamonkey/plugin-container / usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so - greomni /opt/seamonkey/omni.ja /... /... the CPU awakens with one of the 8 CPU cores at 100% usage... and then it proceedes to bounce from one core/cpu to another. But if I turn off the computer, I do not immediately get 100% usage nor does it arise

So this only happens after a "resume" ?

Does it do the same from a LiveUSB ?

Just trying to rule in/out something specific to your setup.

the problem went away for a while, but 100% cpu usage reappeared in gkrellm today. HTOP reports:

Code: [Select]
opt/seamonkey/plugin-container / usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so - greomni /opt/seamonkey/omni.ja /... /... is still the cpu hog...
