Okay write this down...

From now on, if a kernel update breaks wireless, just run:
Code: [Select]
sudo rmmod 8812au
then
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v sudo rm -v /lib/modules/4.10.0-28-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8812au.ko
then
Code: [Select]
sudo depmod -a
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms remove 8812au/4.2.2 --all
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms install 8812au/4.2.2
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe 8812au
and you should have wireless back

No need to connect to anything by ethernet cable, and don't worry if you get errors from the first 2 commands (the last 3 commands would probably be sufficient, but run all 6 anyway).

Sadly, today's  file transfer & syztem wide fresh has corrupted my wifi ... have already run thru our previously discoveted set of commands twice, reboiting each time... while the Antec desktop sees our wifi networks, it refuses to connect to them...
