Other than that telling me I have more header files than actual kernels installed... :-\

Update manager > View Kernels tells me I only have 4.8.o-58 & 4.10.0-28  installed

Same ultimate result.... but this stands out to me
Code: [Select]
Good news! Module version v4.2.2_7502.20130517 for 8812au.ko
exactly matches what is already found in kernel 4.10.0-28-generic.
DKMS will not replace this module.
You may override by specifying --force.

though it does nothing for me...
Code: [Select]
spence@antec ~ $ sudo dkms install 8812au/4.2.2 --force
[sudo] password for spence:
Module 8812au/4.2.2 already installed on kernel 4.10.0-28-generic/x86_64
spence@antec ~ $ sudo dkms install --force 8812au/4.2.2 --force
Module 8812au/4.2.2 already installed on kernel 4.10.0-28-generic/x86_64

Okay write this down...

From now on, if a kernel update breaks wireless, just run:
Code: [Select]
sudo rmmod 8812authen
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v sudo rm -v /lib/modules/4.10.0-28-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8812au.kothen
Code: [Select]
sudo depmod -athen
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms remove 8812au/4.2.2 --allthen
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms install 8812au/4.2.2then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe 8812auand you should have wireless back

No need to connect to anything by ethernet cable, and don't worry if you get errors from the first 2 commands (the last 3 commands would probably be sufficient, but run all 6 anyway).

Sadly, today's  file transfer & syztem wide fresh has corrupted my wifi ... have already run thru our previously discoveted set of commands twice, reboiting each time... while the Antec desktop sees our wifi networks, it refuses to connect to them...
