Hi spence and PCNetSpec,

I too have only kernel 4.4.0-59 and find no mention of kernel 4.4.0-62 ... :-\ Not sure where PCNetSpec dug that one up ...

My apologies, I have the "xenial-proposed" repos enabled.

me neither, just immediately assumed i was doing the update wrong  :( because that's my default position until i quit considering myself a n00b  ::)
I'll just assume since PCNetSpec is testing things he has advanced access to kernels... mint update isn't offering it to me yet  ;)

Whelp, I must have done one too many happy dances yesterday... the RTL8812AU drivers survived two reboots, but not a 3rd. The light is on as if the USB dongle is broadcasting, but no networks are available with a left click on the taskbar icon... I'll go back and try PCNetSpec's recommendations from the last set of drivers in a bit unless somebody tells me not to whilst I go have lunch...

So, I just did
Code: [Select]
sudo pluma /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8812au.conf
and inserted
Code: [Select]
options rtl8812au fwlps=0 ips=0
and will now reboot...

a reboot offered no change in wifi status, no wifi shown with a left click in network icon in task bar, yet the light on USB was on... just for giggles, removed USB and inserted in a different slot... I now have wifi... hmmm

Code: [Select]
spence@antec ~ $ ls -a /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections
.  ..  Antec Ethernet  Antec WiFi

I think I'll wait a few days before I mark this as solved again...

Okay back to the beginning...

What happens of you run:
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms remove -m 8812au -v 4.2.2 --all
then
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -rv /usr/src/8812au-4.2.2
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install rtl8812au-dkms
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe 8812au
does wireless spring to life, or do you still get an error ?
