oh well... looks like I managed to order something with Realtek drivers once again. The documentation reveals the included .tar only supports linux kernels thru 3.1. Is there a way to find an updated driver? I've been all over the web since this arrived.... I think my bald spot has doubled in size and my gray hair mass has tripled...

I did locate the following... https://github.com/gnab/rtl8812au which gives me hope...

as well as this... http://askubuntu.com/questions/491263/installing-rtl8812au-linux-v4-2-0-6952-20130315-tar-gz hmmmm rebooting now... keeping fingers crossed...

Okay, now that all the Christmas holidaze stuff is packed away, I have time to focus on getting these drivers properly installed...

After finding this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/491263/installing-rtl8812au-linux-v4-2-0-6952-20130315-tar-gz
I went thru the following steps,

Code: [Select]
sudo apt install rtl8812au-dkms
rfkill list
sudo lshw -C network
iwlist scan
iwconfig
sudo apt-get install build-essential git
git clone https://github.com/gnab/rtl8812au.git
cd rtl8812au
make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe 8812au
sh
yet still have no "installed drivers" it seems... My apologies in advance for being a befuddled old man...

Any particular reason you're not just installing it via the repos:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install rtl8812au-dkms

Okay (with a wired connection) run these commands in sequence:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge rtl8812au-dkms
then just in case
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms remove -m 8812au -v 4.2.2 --all
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install build-essential dkms git
then
Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/RTL8812AU
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/RTL8812AU
then
Code: [Select]
git clone https://github.com/gnab/rtl8812au.git
then
Code: [Select]
sudo cp -R rtl8812au /usr/src/8812au-4.2.2
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms add -m 8812au -v 4.2.2
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms build -m 8812au -v 4.2.2
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms install -m 8812au -v 4.2.2
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe -r 8812au
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe 8812au
If wireless didn't spring to life, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
lsmod | grep 8812
and
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms status
and
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C network
and
Code: [Select]
modinfo 8812au | grep -i version

[EDIT]

On the off-chance they don't work, I think there's a more recent version here:
https://github.com/Grawp/rtl8812au_rtl8821au
and this link is here just for my possible future reference:
http://dustymabe.com/2016/01/24/802-11ac-on-linux-with-netgear-a6100-rtl8811au-usb-adapter/

and again JUST FOR REFERENCE, this command
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms remove -m 8812au -v 4.2.2 --all
will uninstall the 8812au-4.2.2 dkms driver you installed above .. but do not do this yet.

No, that warning shouldn't be a problem (although I'm not getting it).

Though I'm pretty sure you should have a later kernel than "59" .. I'm on "62" .. so you might want to run a FULL system update and reboot.

then post the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms status
again.

Hi spence and PCNetSpec,

I too have only kernel 4.4.0-59 and find no mention of kernel 4.4.0-62 ... :-\ Not sure where PCNetSpec dug that one up ...
