5 over 4 [wonderful]
« on: June 24, 2014, 08:09:21 am »
Hello All you Peppermintors!

Peppermint 5 installed flawlessly over 4 on my Acer Aspire 1 [d257-1417].  Kept the dual boot with Windows 7 starter, however use Peppermint as primary OS.

Customizing it all now .. nice work to our developers.

And I did order the Stick to help support Peppermint, and an official backup for me as well.

Regards,

Ron

Re: 5 over 4 [wonderful], How is That Done?

If you don't mind me asking how the OP installed P5 over P4, I have P4 on my wife's netbook.  While it is running fine it finds no updates to install.  I'm sure it will continue running for a long while now, but . . . .   I don't really want to put a  whole lot of work into removing the current installation with personalized settings and documents in order to install P5, but if P5 can be installed on top of P4 without a problem, then that is cool.  But if that is really risky, then that is another story.

Many Thanks.

Hello John,

P5 will be a fresh install .. no more P4, so all your customized settings will need to be re-established with 5, documents saved in internal file system will be lost.  Since I use the cloud, no downloads nor files I needed to worry about.

Ironically I like 5 so much, with the 5 years support, I eventually elected to do an complete install on this netbook, over Windows 7 Starter, no more MS nor dual boot.  Part of the appeal is customizing it for my use, so a second re-install did not bother me.

All your settings and documents [not on cloud, such as Google Drive] will be lost, documents can be backed up and re-installed as you most likely know.

Regards,

Ron
