I think you were right about the typo, just the wrong fix,
Try
Code: [Select]
lxpanelctl restart

Woo hoo! All back and working. Thank you all hugely for your help and patience. I'm a bit of an anomaly in that I'm very new to any computer and OS. I thought that if I was going to learn the basics I might as well give Windows a miss entirely. This thread has been a great tutorial in confidence with the terminal and not least forum etiquette. I'm delighted- Thanks again.

Rereading it from the top I realize I miscorrected the first typo. You live and learn, as they say.

With all the code you post, an annual or semi-annual typo is perfectly acceptable.  ;)

I second that. I owe a particular debt to PCNetSpec since he directed me to Peppermint in the first place. Funnily enough, we're only 20 miles apart.

Apologies for the necro post.

does the terminal open if you hit Ctrl+Alt+T ?

if so, what happens if you run this in the terminal:
Code: [Select]
lxpanelctl restart
?

Maybe the file is missing (which may explain a lot) .. what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels

In both instances, I see,  "No such file or directory"
I have a small panel where I can access files, and by hitting Help, access internet.
My fault for getting on this during New Years Eve.
How can I reload my Peppermint panel?
I am running 7.  Would going to 8 or 9 resolve this without file loss?  (What a fool believes.)
I understand no one may see this for awhile.
Happy New Year!
