Sound is coming out funny (FALSE ALARM)
« on: December 31, 2016, 12:48:41 pm »
I got myself a Christmas treat in form of DELL PC set. It's not new but I'm very pleased with its condition. And it was a bargain so I'd be silly not to pull out my wallet.

This "badass" DELL has:

- Intel Core Duo 2.6 Ghz  (nothing to say WOW about here I know ...)
- gpu is very standard I'd say. Nothing special.
- 5 GB of RAM which I already upgraded to 8 GB
- switched hdd for ssd
- and the most important change is switch from W7 to Peppermint ladies and gents !

Overall I'm very happy with this pc. The only thing that makes my forehead wrinkle is the audio. The sound is coming out kinda funny. To put it in words as accurate as I can it sounds like the music is coming to you from distance. It's as if you're standing on one end of a tunnel and the music plays on the other end if that makes sense. You can hear it but you can tell the music is playing far away from you. Playing around with equalizer didn't help.

Should I download some dependencies this pc might be missing ? This pc has Peppermint fresh-installed with all recommended updates.

Thanks for all suggestions ... HAPPY NEW YEAR BTW ! ! !  8)

Are you using the tiny internal speaker in the Dell? That would certainly sound tinny and distant.

No, this Dell doesn't have any in-built speakers. Only audio output and mic input. I checked the sound quality with headphones plugged in. I know the headphones working just fine 'coz I'm using it with my phone when listening to music.

Thanks for dropping a line :)

This might sound daft but is it definitely a headphone output? If it's meant to go to a hi-fi system it would be too quiet for headphones.

Well I'm quite sure it's a headphone output since it has a headphone icon drawn on it XD

There you go then. Any chance of the Dell model number? It sounds a bit similar to mine.

Yeah, I've got the 760. So you're using the jack on the front? Is there one on the back and if so have you tried that?

FALSE ALARM !  LOL !

The headphones I was using work fine with phone but not with the desktop. I figured I'd try to use different headphones. Bulky type. And the sound was just okay. Apparently Samsung earphones aren't the best for all devices. I'm using them for phone and for laptop but for desktop I'm gonna need different headphones.

So there's no problem with audio device per se I just need different headphones lol ..... I'm really sorry for wasting your time mate ! So sorry !

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Good stuff. It's weird because I just searched the forum for that model of Dell and someone else had an audio issue with it. Strange coincidence!

PS Happy New Year!  ;D
