Hi gammaray, how's it going?  I see you're using Peppermint Four.  That's where your problem lies.  Peppermint Four is based on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail..  This version hasn't been supported since the end of January 2014.  The repos are all archived and no longer available.  Could you provide us with the output from:
Code: [Select]
inxi -FzWe can review your machine's specs and advise you if Peppermint 7 will be a suitable replacement.  Peppermint 7 is supported through April 2021  ;)
Backup! Backup! Backup! If you're missing any of these -  you ain't Backed Up!
For my system info please L/click HERE.

IIRC, Peppermint 4 was based on Ubuntu 13.04 .. Ubuntu have now closed/archived the repos for 13.04 so you'd need to adjust your sources.list

Can you post the contents of
Code: [Select]
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

OK, first let's backup your sources.list .. run:
Code: [Select]
sudo cp -v /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.backupNow open your sources.list for editing:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.listand make it read:
Code: [Select]
# deb cdrom:[Peppermint 4 _Four_ - Release i386 (20130502)]/ raring main multiverse restricted universe

# deb http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu raring main
# deb-src http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu raring main
(be sure to get all of that .. it scrolls)

SAVE the file and exit gedit.

Back in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get updateYou should now be able to install software from the repos again ;)

[EDIT]

This should NOT be viewed as a method for sticking with Peppermint 4 .. please be aware that Peppermint 4 has NOT been patched against vulnerabilities such as heartbleed and the bash bug, nor will it receive any other security (or software) updates at all .. effectively Peppermint 4 even using the old-releases repo is frozen in time.

Update to Peppermint 6 or 7 if possible
;)
