Succesfully Installed Brother HL-2270DW as network printer
« on: December 28, 2016, 06:17:08 pm »

This is for you peppermint users who have a Brother Printer in my case, an HL-2270DW,  and want to be able to use it.  The Brother web site had the software and instructions and it worked.

Go Here:

Follow the directions as stated, agree with the EULA and press on .  I was successful.

After you download the tool  follow the instructions on the next page:

Step1. Download the tool.(linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1.gz) (in this case)

The tool will be downloaded into the default "Download" directory.
(The directory location varies depending on your Linux distribution.)
e.g. /home/(LoginName)/Download

Step2. Open a terminal window and go to the directory you downloaded the file to in the last step.

Step3. Enter this command to extract the downloaded file:

Command: gunzip linux-brprinter-installer-*.*.*-*.gz

Step4. Get superuser authorization with the "su" command or "sudo su" command.

Step5. Run the tool:

Command: bash linux-brprinter-installer-*.*.*-* Brother machine name
e.g. bash linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1 MFC-J880DW

Step6. The driver installation will start. Follow the installation screen directions.

When you see the message "Will you specify the DeviceURI ?",

 For USB Users: Choose N(No)
For Network Users: Choose Y(Yes) and DeviceURI number.

Fortunately they give you a numbered option, so you don't have to type a 18 character alphanumeric

The install process may take some time. Please wait until it is complete.

When you are done you can print a test page.

Good job, sdgengineer !

I recently bought a Dell E310DW printer, which is basically a re-branded Brother HL-L2360DW.

Brother makes some great, affordable products !

I never did get the Wifi working right.  I don't really need it, but I'd like to get it working anyway.

Think I'll try your tute and see if that works ...  ;)

BTW, here's how to find Ubu/Peppermint drivers for the Dell E310DW printer, if anyone is interested ...
