New 4.8.0-23 Kernel problems
« on: December 22, 2016, 09:24:04 am »
Looks like I spoke too soon regarding the new kernel available within the update manager.

having rebooted 4 times into 2 diff kernels   4.4   works perfectly   4.8 and I lose 3 ext USB HDD's.

How is that - what have they done ?

It may be a firmware compatibility thing .. remember you'll still be using firmware compiled against (and designed for) 4.4

Does another distro with the 4.8 kernel such as MX-16 work? .. if so, on that distro, what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep firmware

Hi

One final questions - how do I find out if this is has it been reported to the "Kernel" makers and if not how do I go about reporting it given I am not very technical
