How to change the white background of the window ? (SOLVED)
« on: December 18, 2016, 12:56:03 pm »
Anyone knows how to change the eyes-blinding white background of the window to dark ?
I tried to fiddle around with the setting but none of those seems to change the white background.

Hi Mark

You can select a dark theme

Menu>Preferences>Customise Look and Feel

When the settings box opens look under the Widgets tab select a dark theme such as Peppermix Dark

If none of the default themes suit your tastes you could download themes here

https://www.gnome-look.org/browse/cat/135/ord/latest/

Good luck

Graeme

I've already picked that dark theme but for some reason some windows remain white like that. Never mind. Thanks for the link. Some of those themes look really original. People are really creative :)

Not only creative but they give it all away for free :)

I'm binge watching NetFlix right now, so I'll keep it short ...   ;D

Here's one of the techniques I use to quickly change background/foreground colors in Peppermint, Ubu, et cetera.

If I can't find themes I like, I just roll my own, but that's a discussion for another time.  Anyway ...

Search the web for a GTK theme that contains background and foreground colors that you like.

For instance, I love the BG/FG colors in a KDE theme called "Breeze Dark".  I use it in openSUSE installs.

Doesn't matter if it's a KDE theme and looks like shiz on Peppermint.  I'm just after its BG/FG colors, which look great !

Get the idea ?!?!?

Okay, for exemplification, let's start with the standard 'Peppermint Dark 7' theme and haxor it ...

Once you find a donor theme you like, install it, choose it in 'Customize Look and Feel>Widget' and click 'Apply'.

Go to 'Customize Look and Feel>Color' and tick the 'Use customized color scheme' box and click 'Apply'.

Then, go back to 'Customize Look and Feel>Widget', choose the base theme you want and click  'Apply'.

That's it.  The background and foreground colors you chose (above) will be locked in, no matter which theme you pick.   8)

Okay, back to the tube ...
