I thought it was a fair review

So many reviews I've seen seem to have us down as a "cloud based distro" which I think can give some people the wrong impression of what Peppermint is about and be off putting for some people

I'm particularly glad they gave the Control Centre an honorable mention

yeah I don't know if we'll ever be able to get rid of that "cloud" label short of putting

Peppermint is NOT a ****ing "Cloud" distro

I think with Peppermint 8, we're going to have to emphasize in no uncertain terms,  it's not built to be primarily a Cloud based distro.  It's cloud capabilities are just one of its many modern functions the end user can choose from.  This Cloud based distro nonsense has to be addressed.  It's becoming a festering thorn in the side.  I really think it's the reviewers fault.  They don't research the distro's history or progression, before reviewing them.  The only way to get them to pay attention, is to be in their faces.  Other than that rant, it was a pretty good review  ;).

It's hard to promote the benefits of ICE without this happening. Maybe point out that ICE is starting to be borrowed by other distros and it's just a utility.

Exactly, emphasize the purpose of Ice is not to restrict Peppermint to Cloud usage.  It's there to expand the capabilities of Peppermint and to offer the user more choice.  Something other distros are now realizing by the addition of Ice to their default package list.  The problem is getting reviewers to think outside of the box.   At the moment, most of them are cynical towards anything that doesn't conform to their conservative view of a Linux distro.

Maybe we need to include an office suite....

I mean why are we a "cloud" distro when others that include ICE aren't ?

Problem is this breaks or "no applications installed OOTB" ethos, so I'd rather not.

I think the REAL problem is reviewers get their info from Google, and Google holds a lot of old outdated content .. some reviewers still quote "Mozilla Prism" as a Peppermint underlying tech and that hasn't been used since Peppermint ONE (it's was also binned by Mozilla about 5 years ago).

If they did their job properly, they'd get in touch and ask what Peppermint is about, but I've never had a single one do that ::)

Maybe we need to include an office suite....
Maybe an ICE SSB that points to a page that displays:

1. Why there isn't a full Office Suite installed on Peppermint!

2. Which Office Suites can be installed and how!
- Google drive (already present)
- LibreOffice (repositories and/or latest version)
- WPS
- ...

Anyone who searches for an Office Suite in the menu will click that icon IF we give it an appealing name!
Example: "Choose your Office Suite" or "Install an Office Suite" or something like that...

Greets!  ;)
Peppermint 6  (x64)   -   Windows 7 Ultimate SP1  (x64)
Running different OS flavors in VirtualBox, just for fun!

Maybe if we went with a Welcome screen for PM8 we could along with a description of our ethos incorporate a one click install of Libre Office, that way we're not making choices for people and keeping the footprint small

Are you serious, that's shocking  :o.  Going to the source is the obvious place to get the up to date info.  What a bunch of prats.  Anything they say is purely guesswork.  As this is the case, it's our duty to correct them when they make dumb arse comments.
