0-days hitting Fedora and Ubuntu open desktops to a world of hurt

I imagine this zero-day exploit could affect Peppermint users also.  I don't know serious it is, but I suspect a patch will be found very quickly.

Hello GNULINUX,

Linux's response time is just amazing.  What a great OS!  :)

Indeed perknh,

That's one of the many things that I love about Linux and Peppermint. Whatever the problem, there's always someone working on a solution!

The advantages of having anyone anywhere working on issues and being able to release patches upstream, as opposed to having everything taken care of (or not) by a small group of people behind closed doors.  That's one thing that makes Linux so hard to attack, when exploits are found they are quickly stamped out.

Indeed I'm pretty sure the patched libgme was out before this topic was started :)

15th I think (at least that's the day it was installed on my system).

No OS is 100% secure, exploits WILL be found, it's all about how they're discovered and dealt with .. Linux has a bigger group of people working on it than ANY other OS, add to that it has tech a savvy user base who report things, and an army of white hat hackers who can study the code looking for vulnerabilities and report them, and then people can easily submit patches (again because of the accessibility of the source code) and Linux is better positioned than other OS's to respond quickly, so far nearly always before an exploit gets used maliciously in the wild.
