Kernel 4.4.0-53-generic makes Peppermint run slow
« on: December 10, 2016, 08:24:03 pm »
Has anyone noticed how the new 4.4.0-53-generic kernel makes things run really slow.  My boot up time is now dreadful.  Opening more than a few SSBs, (Google Chrome)  they get bogged down and unresponsive.  Here's my specs:

As you can see, it should be flying.  I tried rolling back to: the 4.4.0-51-generic kernel.  My machine zips along with that one.  The only problem I have with that kernel, is my system unexpectedly locks up.  This happens without using Suspend or Screen Lock.  That's rules out using that kernel.  I think if I go any further back, I'm going to run into vulnerability issues  :-\.   I can't seem to win for losing.   Has anyone any suggestions.  Honestly on this machine, the 4.4.0-53-generic kernel is like wading through cold molasses  :'(

It's ghastly on this machine.  It's really unusual too.  This Dell has been like a bolt of lighting until this 4.4.0-53-generic kernel.  I'll see if I'm able to sit it out until the next kernel is made available  :(.

No problems here on PM 6 and 7 with that kernel...

Not dramatic but may be an indication? Time for cleaning out the dust-bunny's?

Can't hurt...  ;)

Kernel 4.4.0-53 works fine for me....

You might try kernel 4.8.0-30. Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels. Scroll to the right.
