Yeah, the link between the two is obvious to me too.  Heck, they even ask you when you're at the Chromium site if you'd like to leave and get Chrome instead.  ;D

If you log into and sync Chromium, then install Chrome, you'll already be logged in and synced in Chrome.  At least, that's how it used to be, but I don't see why it wouldn't still be.
