Another no-sound thread... :/
« on: December 09, 2016, 02:23:55 am »
So, decided to stick it to the man and keep my older hardware going. ;P
Installed P7 on HP Mini (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_2133_Mini-Note_PC) that I got for a pair of boots I didn't need. :O
It's slow but the main problem is - there's no sound. HELP!
Read some posts, dug a bit but got nowhere.

Did you, by any chance, install and use Firejail for sandboxing? If so, try this:

Does
Code: [Select]
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
or
Code: [Select]
sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
result in any you hearing "Front Center" from your speakers ?

Does audio work from the headphone socket ?

Run:
Code: [Select]
wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh && ./alsa-info.sh
and select "OK" then "UPLOAD/SHARE" then "YES" then "EXIT"

In the terminal you will see something like:

Quote from: alsa-info.sh output

Hei,
And let's pretend I wasn't AFK for weeks. My life sure sucks.
Anyway:
- aplaying that wav gives only silence
- headphone jack gives weird crackle-hiss and when playing audio some of it can be heard quietly behind it

Have you had this sound problem on any other OS, if you haven't checked yet, boot up another Live USB and tell us if the sound still doesn't work, in that case you might have an actually broken sound device.
