Running Peppermint 7 and every time I plug or unplug my laptop from charger brightness goes through the wall. I keep it on 50 or 60% thus when 100% kicks in it does blind me for a minute.

I found plenty of threads talking about brightness issues that occurs after each reboot or just log in and out but none talks about what command to execute when charger messes with brightness.

I appreciate any suggestions.

I take it you've tried adjusting the brightness for mains and battery in the power manager ?

If so, maybe you'd like to try the MATE power manager instead ? .. give us a shout if you need instructions.

This is how my power manager looks like:  https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6uVbJ5C2XJpbGpGWWlPX1cyU28

If you reckon different manager might do the trick please share what should I do ... don't suppose I can just download it in Software Manager.

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install mate-power-manager
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove xfce4-power-manager xfce4-power-manager-plugins
now go to

menu > Preferences > Default applications for LXSession > Core applications (tab)

and change:-

Power Manager: xfce4-power-manager

to:-

Power Manager: mate-power-manager

Now log off/on (or reboot).

To UNDO
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove mate-power-manager mate-power-manager-common
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install xfce4-power-manager xfce4-power-manager-plugins
then change the setting back in "Default applications for LXSession" ..  and log off/on (or reboot)

Maaan I was forced to undo that change. It fixed the brightness problem (kudos for that one) but suddenly machine won't go sleep when the lid is closed. I'd set it up to suspend when the lid is closed but it just turns off the screen but machine still running.  :/
