Can anyone install to eMMc memory? [SOLVED]
« on: November 27, 2016, 09:59:44 pm »
Hello Peppermint Forum,

Does anyone know if eMMc Memory works in the same way as a flash drive or an SSD does?  I've read that eMMc means embedded Multi-Media Controller, but that does not help me a lot when I'm considering purchasing a Streambook tomorrow, on Cyber Monday, and then replacing Windows 10 with Peppermint 7.  I know a 32 GB eMMc sounds large enough for my needs, but eMMc itself has me a bit stumped.

So, far the only thread in this forum I've seen mention eMMc has been from myway_1 here.  But, I still need a little more information about the subject.

eMMc, umm...I don't know if I can work with it or not for a Peppermint installation.  :-\

Any thoughts from anyone here about eMMc, or their experience while trying to install to it, would be appreciated.

Thank you,

perknh

Hi perknh,

I seriously doubt that there will be any problems installing Peppermint just because of the eMMc. The problems that myway_1 experienced were not related to eMMc but to the other hardware that his stick contains.

It should work, in theory. If you have any problems during the installation, you could try installing to another drive and then copying the partition over to the eMMC.

It's basically the same type of storage as "flash memory" from this thread:

https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,778.msg6607.html

But that was about a machine with only 4GB of storage. I tried to install Peppermint 7 to a 4GB SSD the other day and it ran out of room. 32GB is easily enough.

Hello Slim.Fatz and murraymint,

This is helpful information.  Thank you, both.  ;)

Now, where are all those wonderful sales that were supposed to appear today on Cyber Monday?  I can't find them, and a computer savvy friend of mine can't find them either.  I'm sensing uncertainty in the market.  So far I have say "Grr" today to Cyber Monday, 2016.  It's definitely not living up to its hype.  :(

Thank you,

perknh
