New installation of Peppermint six error number 30

Yesterday was using Chromium to browse the internet then wanted to use Firefox.  Got a note saying there was an active Firefox window so to close that or reboot. As no window open, I re booted but got same message when tried to use Firefox.

Then found I couldn't access the internet at all. After trying several re boots, with still no internet access, in my wisdom  :'(, after saving what little I needed to a usb, I decided to do a fresh install of Peppermint 6 & got the following:

Installer encountered an error copying files to hard disk
Errno 30 Read-only file system: 'target/lib/firmware/GPL -3' saying often due to faulty hard disk.

So am using Peppermint 6 Live CD & can access internet now. Can you help me do a full install please, or is my hard drive likely faulty?

While you're running the Live PM6, open a terminal window with the following keystrokes: Ctrl+Alt+t.  Enter, (Copy & Paste) the following command into the open terminal window.  Hit enter:

Post the output back to the forum  ;).

Looks like your filesystem has errors so is being remounted read-only (most likely a failing HDD)

From a LiveCD/USB run:

sudo apt-get install smartmontools
then post the output from:

sudo smartctl -a -d ata /dev/sda

Other things you may try...

running a SMART test from within
menu > Accessories > Disks
then highlight the hard drive and hit Ctrl+S .. then click  the "Run self-test" button and choose one of the tests.

and/or

Completely formatting the drive in Gparted .. rebooting .. then reinstalling Peppermint.



Now might be the time to start considering that SSD you know you've always wanted ;)
