But aren't they often the most interesting to "quote" .. gonna be hard to quote things like "US run by alien in disguise" and "Alien scientists find it difficult to mimic human hair" when a popup keeps telling me they're not real .. but then again "it's all a conspiracy to hide the fact", there we go normal service resumed :)

Half asleep here.  Read your post far too quickly this morning.  Thought you said, "US to be run by possible alien in disguise who finds it difficult to mimic human hair."  But, would that be considered fake-news or not?  I can't disprove the headline here, although I'm quite certain it is false.  :-\

I've had an experience with fake news myself.  I was told, shortly after the US presidential election, that not only did Donald Trump win the electoral vote --which is true.  But, that he also won the popular vote --which is false.  Well, I went home and researched this, and emailed my friends a now dated Snopes piece debunking that claim, I was told that my claim was subject to dispute. (Again, I couldn't argue this because my friends themselves were disputing my claim!)

So, I asked my friends from where did they get this information --that Trump had won the popular vote.  The answer was "Facebook", and they then sent me a picture of Donald's and Hillary's faces with --forgive me-- trumped up numbers beneath their respective photos, but no original source.   When I asked from where that Facebook information was derived, I was told the New York Times.  End of story.

What has happened to journalism and references?  I don't want to put my faith in an extension to help me decipher what is true and what is false.  This is a sad day for news and journalism when we have come to this. :(

Dangerous topic, asleep or not...

Oh well, let us do some basic research:
- I looked at the block list and I don't see msn.com, bbc.com, cnn.com...
- The main issue with this extension!
- Who is "involved"? (not a subject to publish here but very interesting)

Nothing more to add besides the fact that I could be completely misinformed and wrong or even payed to say such things!
Anyway, I'm NOT using this extension... ever...  ;)

Dangerous topic, asleep or not...

I certainly think the implications of this topic are potentially dangerous.  Remember when advertisement blocking extensions were such a big deal, and then, over time, more and more browsers began to add ad blocking features as a "selling" point?  Well, let's think about this one; if this extension evolves in the same way as ad blockers have, might we one day have browsers that, by default, screen out what somebody else has decided as fake-news --even when it isn't?

I know we're already doing this kind of thing to some degree.  Most of us, for good reason, have have checked the box in our browsers to block malware and phishing.  Certainly nobody wants to be duped online.  But, this is different, that isn't fake-news.  But you can certainly see how the slippery slop could begin with a well-intended, seemingly innocent, little extension like this.  When does it stop blocking only fake news and begin censoring meaningful content.  Where will the line be drawn?

You say you "don't see msn.com, bbc.com, cnn.com..."  I get your point, but I think this is good thing.  The extension isn't YET screening for bias, or points of view.  But, then, this is only the prototype.  Let's wait and see what happens when version number 2 comes out!  :o

GNULINUX, this is going to interesting how the development of this idea unfolds.  Who knows?  Maybe the idea behind this extension will die a natural death.

I will remove the link.  If somebody wants to use it, they can hunt it down over at Chrome Web Store.

I don't intend to use this extension either.  But, in this case, I felt I had a responsibility to show the reader that this wasn't a fake-news story after all!  :D

Sorry for parsing, but ... first of all, 'Fake-News', so called, needs to be defined.

I spend a large part of my day/night surfing news aggregators , so I'm a bit of an expert on the subject.

Having said that, I would define 'Fake-News' as any news that one does not agree with.

For the most part, it's being pushed by the NWO crowd these days, in their epic fight against the nationalists.

Good luck with that ...   8)

I did a quick search for 'Fake-News' on Wikipedia.  Here's their answer ...

I'll stick with my definition, for the time being.   8)

Off the top of my head, I'd say that fake news is false information, widely disseminated, which is intended to mislead its target audience, or maybe even mislead the society at large.

As many Americans reading this may know, there's a sizable movement here to go back to the Flat Earth Theory.  This movement,  in my opinion, is outright madness.  And, it's one more piece of evidence to me that the United States is on a rapid trajectory towards a more uneducated and ignorant populace.

Here, in the video below, is the Flat Earth Theory being debunked.  It also includes a short address of how such ideas, if disseminated widely enough, can cause harm to a society.  This topic is addressed here through comedy, and is [Parent Alert] undoubtedly intended for mature audiences --say, from high school age and up.

Nooooooo .. all the oceans will drain off the edge, then what will we eat with our chips .. are you telling me our national dish is doomed ?

On the plus side - toasting marshmallows at the mid-Atlantic rift becomes easier.
