How to enable Wifi (Solved!!)
« on: June 16, 2014, 12:17:04 am »
Hi all,
I was wondering, I have recently installed Pep OS 4 on my friends HP Pavilion dv5000, but now it has no wifi. I believe that it is "broadcom" and have tried to install the proprietary drivers, but with little success. :'( Most of the time it won't install and if it does the hardware doesn't turn on. Just wondering what my options are? As i have now tried 3 distros with the same outcome, but would like to keep Pep OS if possible.

Thanks all!!!
_tuter

Edit:
The exact card is "Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller" according to inxi -F

Just to be sure, can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C network
and
Code: [Select]
lsusb
and
Code: [Select]
lspci -vnn | grep net

Hmm .. wonder why lspci isn't picking up the broadcom adapter  :-\

Anyway, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer
then reboot.

If the broadcom card is still not working, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
rfkill list
