Hello,

Last night I noticed I could not take a link from YouTube and paste it within Peppermint forum -- even though the link was pertinent to the topic being discussed.

Does anyone know why a link from YouTube cannot be pasted within Peppermint forum?

Is it a legal matter?

I bet there's an interesting reason as to why I could not do so.

 :(

Thank you,

perknh

Posting a youtube link in the Peppermint forum should result in the actual youtube video being embedded in your post.  The Simple Audio Video Embedder is an SMF feature that is enabled in the Peppermint forum which does that automatically and, apparently, has no disable function available to users. If there is a way to override it I don't know what it is.  Maybe Mark will offer you a better explanation ;).

YouTube URL's CAN be posted, and should automagically embed the video in your post .. can you provide an example of a youtube URL that isn't working ?

[EDIT]

Go to the YouTube page that has your video .. copy the URL from your web browsers address bar .. paste that URL into this forum, and the video contained on that page should be automagically embedded into your post.

Thank you PCNetSpec, rjm65, and Mac.

Now I'm know I was the cause of this problem.  It was my HTTPS Everywhere extension that stopped me from being able to post the link.

I have to temporarily disable this extension if I want to add a YouTube video to a post.

There is a catch, however.  When I re-enable the HTTPS Everywhere extension, I cannot see the YouTube video I have posted.  I can see rjm65's YouTube video link, but not the link I have posted.

I find this to be strange.  Now my question is, can you folks see the YouTube video I have posted?

This it the post to which I added the video:  http://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,428.msg3683.html#msg3683

It should be at the bottom of the page -- with Linus Torvalds on the face of the YouTube video.  With this HTTPS Everywhere extension enabled, I just have an empty bottom page.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Only if you copy what is up in the address bar, If you click share below the video on youtube and copy their share link like I did it works in this forum...
Now I went a step further I am not sure if you have to take that extra step or not cause pcnetspec says their is some voodoo involved, I also drank a beer and ate a few Farley's Rusks maybe that helped it, but I clicked hyperlink above and pasted the share code between the hyperlink tags ....   ;)

The problem is you're posting the https (secure) URL .. and your extension is blocking SSL .. so remove the 's'

ie.
Change the URL from:
Code: [Select]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFKxlYNfT_o
to
Code: [Select]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFKxlYNfT_o

PCNetSpec and rjm65,

Thanks to you guys, I learned two new tricks today.

If all goes well, we should now be able to see the YouTube video at the bottom of the page of this link:

http://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,428.msg3683.html#msg3683

I think I've got it.  This is a major score for me today.

Thank you both very much.

Thank you PCNetSpec, rjm65, and Mac.

If everyone else can post a YouTube video, then I must be the cause of this problem.  Now I'm wondering if adding the HTTPS Everywhere extension could be the stopping me from posting the link.

everyone else can see your embedded video .. so if anything, your extension isn't stopping you posting them , just viewing them.

Hello PCNetSpec,

If I do the Google's YouTube share method, and paste in the code they give me, and then insert hyperlink, as rjm65 suggested -- then I can see what I posted.  I see it on my machine.

If I go from :

Please click the link.

http://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,451.msg3739.html#msg3739

then I can not see it at all on my computer.  It's just a blank space for me

Am I understanding you correctly?  All I will see is a blank page, whereas everyone else will be able to able to see the video I posted.

I find it difficult to tell what others can see, when I can't see it myself.

Thank you,

perknh

Yep, everyone else will be able to see it .. if you just use paste what's in the web browsers address bar (whilst on youtube)  into this forum.

Apparently it's only you that cant see them.

Post an example test video URL here, where you just get a black box .. and we'll tell you if we can view it.

Okay, here's a song sang by the late Johnnie Wilder, Jr.  from the now defunct R&B/Funk group Heatwave.  The song, Always and Forever, reflects Peppermint Nation's feelings towards Peppermint OS to a T.

Now, if only I could sing like this man could!

And, as you've instructed me, I'm changed the link from HTTPS to HTTP.

Here's the link to the YouTube video I will not be able to see.

Enjoy!

Here's a song from my Plug.DJ playlist, which reflects MY feelings toward Peppermint Five  :D
