Action Buttons panel plugin not working properly
« on: July 28, 2016, 09:56:25 am »
I also have a similar problem.
I did a fresh install of Peppermint 7 on a HP Mini 5101 netbook: the Suspend and Shutdown buttons in the panel are disabled (see image). I have to use the terminal command "shutdown", and that works properly.

I did a upgrade/update/dist-upgrade

xfce-power-manager --dump gives me this output:

Code: [Select]
xfce4-power-manager --dump
---------------------------------------------------
Xfce power manager version 1.4.4
With policykit support
With network manager support
---------------------------------------------------
Can suspend: True
Can hibernate: False
Authorised to suspend: True
Authorised to hibernate: False
Authorised to shutdown: True
Has battery: False
Has brightness panel: True
Has power button: True
Has hibernate button: True
Has sleep button: True
Has LID: True

Any ideas as to why these buttons are disabled?

Hi plotino, how's it going?  I see you're having problems posting a screenshot to the forum  :).  To post images to this site, you need to use an image hosting site, such as Imgur: imgur.com or Postimage.org: postimage.org.  Upload your image(s) to these sites.  These are good sites to make SSBs with the Ice tool for future use  ;).  You will find links to your images already formatted for different uses.  For Imgur, choose the one for BBCode (message boards & forums).  For Postimage.org, choose the one for Thumbnail for Forums (1) and copy the links.  Paste them into the forum editor.  You do not need to encapsulate these links or modify them.  I suggest you have a play around to familiarise yourself with the sites's functions.  Use the Preview button in the forum editor to check how they look.  I hope this helps  ;).

I've split plotino's post off from here:
https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,3979.0.html
as it was actually a different problem .. the original topic wasn't about the Action Buttons panel plugin, it was about the physical POWER button.

I've also fixed your image link for you.

I'm sorry to say the "Action Buttons" panel plugin is one of the few that don't currently work properly with our mix of the xfce4-panel and LXDE session management.

I may see if I can fix this at some point.

Do you know of any other xfce plugins that perform the same function and does actually work?

No, but it would be trivial to add a launcher to the panel that launches
Code: [Select]
peppermint-logout
if that's any good to you ?

Theoretically it would also be possible to create a custom config file for the "Applications Menu" plugin that didn't display ALL the apps, but just the commands you want to run, giving you a very similar look/feel to the "Action Buttons" .. if you get my meaning.

This is great, and exactly what I was looking for when I searched the forum for Action Button. Cheers!  ;D
